Debashis Chatterjee has completed his five-year term as IIM Kozhikode Director and handed over charge to Kulbhushan Balooni on September 12.
Chatterjee was instrumental in bringing dynamic changes at IIM Kozhikode during his stint and transformed the business school from being a small town school to an institution of national impact.
Chatterjee, who has been teaching for 21 years, increased the enrolment of women up to 54 per cent in the flagship post-graduate programme at IIMK. For the last 50 years, the IIMK enrolment of women was stagnant at 8-10 per cent. He also tripled the faculty at IIMK.
Chatterjee set up the Yale University – IIMK Centre for Excellence in Academic Leadership as part of the Singh-Obama knowledge Initiative. The institute's Post Graduate and Executive Post Graduate Programmes received global accreditation from London-based AMBA during his stint.
The corpus fund of IIMK increased from Rs 85.31 crore to Rs 263 in the last five years under the leadership of Chatterjee.
Born on September 5, Chatterjee holds the tenure as Professor of Organisational Behaviour at IIM Lucknow.
Balooni, the Director-incharge at IIMK, is a professor of Economics at the B-School.
