In an effort to engage recruiters and other stakeholders, and understand the emerging recruitment environment in the country, IIM Ahmedabad recently organised its annual Recruiters Conclave at Mumbai.
Other opportunitiesThe conclave focused on alternative channels of hiring for mid-level and senior-level managerial and leadership positions. Some of the issues raised by the participants revolved around expectations of one-year MBA students, career goals and industry perspectives.
The event included a panel discussion on ‘Alternate Channels for Lateral Hiring’ that focused on the need for filling talent gaps at middle- and senior-manager positions through campus placements. The panel also deliberated on aspects such as diversity and inclusiveness of profiles, availability of experienced and differentiated talent pool, institutional and industry support for pursuing higher education, the need to increase industry-academia interaction and other initiatives.
IIM-A aims to understand the recruitment environment and explore how the B-school can deliver for the emerging needs of the new landscape through the conclave, said Kirti Sharda, Placement Chairperson of IIM-A in a press statement. “It is also a quest to improve recruitment practices in the entire B-school ecosystem and move towards a more enabled and effective community,” he added. The discussion also clarified many myths regarding students’ expectations from jobs, added Nikhil Dash, a student of the Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives from IIM-A.
More than 40 HR and senior management professionals from firms like Abbott India, Accenture, Aditya Birla Group, GSK, Kotak Investment Advisors, Microsoft, Sun Pharma, Tata Communications, TCS, and Vodafone joined the event along with other participants such as head-hunters and IIM-A alumni from in and around Mumbai.
RepresentativesRepresentatives from B-Schools such as IIM Indore, IIM Udaipur, S.P. Jain Institute of Management Research, K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research, and Singapore Management University also attended the event.
IIM-A has been organising Recruiters Conclave over the years and have discussed issues ranging from engaging global recruiters, placement reporting standards and creating innovative recruitment practices, and processes for campus placements.
