Generally spotted in sweatshirts and pajamas, students at XLRI Jamshedpur were looking smart on Saturday, as they donned hats and gowns to receive their diplomas at the B-school’s convocation ceremony.

A graduating batch of 245 students from Post Graduate Programmes in Management, five students of the Fellowship Programme from Jamshedpur Campus, 119 students of the 2013 batch of the 15-month PGDM (General Management) Programme, and 35 students from Executive PGP course from the Dubai Campus received their diplomas during the ceremony.

Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman of the State Bank of India, was the chief guest.

XLRI also conferred the prestigious ‘Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Social and Industrial Peace’ on Bhattacharya during the ceremony.

Bhattacharya is the first woman to deliver the convocation address at XLRI and the first lady recipient of the Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal. The Chairman of the Board of Governors of XLRI, H. M. Nerurkar, congratulated the graduating batch.

He said, “Indian managers face many challenges but it is their ability to deal with these challenges that makes them the world’s best managers. Indian CEOs are second to none in the world.”
