SIBM Bangalore recently concluded its annual management conclave, Alchemy 2014. This year's theme for the event was Inflection Point - the tumult in the economy, and a wave of optimism after. The three-day festival hosted eminent speakers who shared their views and industry insights on the topic, says a press release from the B school.

Day one of the management conclave began with its Satkala art exhibition.

The first speaker for the day was J. K. Gupta, CFO of CMC. He talked about the success story of CMC through the various inflection points that occurred in the company's life and how focusing on efficiency and being effective drove it forward.

The session by Naresh Kumar Gupta, Director of Consumer Fixed Access, BSNL, focused on the change in telecom industry through the years.

Another highly interactive session was held by Apurv Nagpal, Ex-CEO of Saregama (HMV) and author of the book, 18 Plus. Apart from an engaging discussion on topics like the importance of technology and the rules of innovation, Nagpal also spoke about the importance of innovation in leading to inflection and vice-versa.

On the second day, the business school hosted a number of panel discussions. In one such discussion, Manish Gupta, Sales Director of Distribution and Retail, Dell India, talked about social media, the internet and the digital age and its application to the present context.

This was followed by another panel discussion on 'Behavioural Economics Coming of Age'. Corporate top shots Rajeev Mishra, Head, Digital Practice, Wipro; Ravi Gowda, CEO of Global Mergers; and Apurv Nagpal participated in the discussion. The session offered insights on maximising digital brand presence and aligning goals of the business with that of the consumer.

The post lunch panel discussion was based on 'Supply Chain: Surge and Sustain'. Pawan Bhageria, Senior Vice President, Manufacturing and IT, TATA Technologies; M. Balakrishnan Ganeshan, Senior Finance Manager, Amazon; Padmanabhan Babu, Director, Logilink India; and Cherian Kuruvila, Managing Partner, CNC Transcend, were speakers for the session.

The final day of Alchemy began with a keynote speech by Anand Pillai, Sr. Executive Vice President & Chief Learning Officer at Reliance Industries. This was followed by a panel discussion which included Atanu Sengupta, National HR Manager, Saint Gobain; Ganesh Subramanian, General Manager, HR, Enterprise Support, HUL; and Shantanu Dhar,Vice President - HR, Kirloskar Oil Engines.

The event was brought to a close by a session from R. Chandrasekhar, President-Commercial Petrochemical, RIL. He took the audience through a journey in time which forayed into the historical ramifications of decisions made at critical junctures i.e. inflection points.
