Waiver of tax on dividends paid by mutual funds, including the Unit Trust of India under the US-64 scheme, and other measures were discussed here today as part of a package to revive the stock markets. The discussions were held by the Finance Secretary, Mr. Vijay Kelkar, with the UTI Chairman, Mr. P.S. Subramanyam, and the trustees. According to UTI sources, various measures to boost the sagging secondary market were discussed at the meeting and the package is expected by the weekend.
Anubhav investors left in the lurch
Scores of Anubhav group investors, faced with dishonoured cheques, today occupied the company premises and tried to take away office fixtures, even as company officials abandoned their stations. There was a steady stream of investors at the Anubhav group's office in South Chennai from 9 a.m. in the hope that they could collect money in lieu of their dishonoured cheques. Some of them had received letters saying they could come on October 21 and collect their money.
Centre clears concurrent offering of Concor shares
The Government has finally approved a concurrent offering in the international and domestic markets for disinvestment of shares of Container Corporation of India (Concor). Although the broad parameters for pricing were agreed upon at the meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM), the global co-ordinators and the syndicate for the offering have been told to get back to the Government swiftly on whether its price expectations can be met by the investors. The bankers are expected to inform the Government within a week on whether the "issue can be done at the broad parameters on price agreed upon today".
