It’s official. Fans of Indian music in general and AR Rahman’s works in particular will soon get to know all they want to know about the music maestro’s life and career. Delhi-based Penguin Random House is publishing Notes of a Dream: The Authorized Biography of AR Rahman , written by Chennai-based writer Krishna Trilok. The book, which will be out in India in August, captures the “nostalgia, the drama and the extraordinary success story” of Rahman, says a Penguin release.

Winner of national and international awards, including the Oscars and Grammy, the Mozart of Madras opens up in the book about his philosophies: hope, perseverance, positivity and love, according to publisher Penguin. The book will feature Rahman’s early days as a composer of advertisement jingles, his first big break into feature films, his experiments new technology, and more.

According to Penguin, Rahman says that “all these years, you've known me through my music. Now I look forward to you reading about who I am, and the story of where I am going”. Hollywood director Danny Boyle, whose 2008 film Slumdog Millionaire had fetched Rahman the Oscars, has written the foreword for Notes of a Dream. “His talent is matched by his appetite, his modesty and his generosity. All surrendered to the troubadour mentality; we are at the service of the music,” notes Boyle in his foreword. Author Trilok says it is his honour to share the life story of one of India’s biggest stars — a story that is graceful and inspiring proof of the power of love, talent and hard work. Trilok’s first book Sharikrida was a fantasy novel. This is his first work of non-fiction.
