This refers to the editorial “Paper far from White” ( Business Line , May 23). The White paper on black money released in Parliament by the Finance Minister is disappointing. The shortcomings include no reliable quantification of black money stacked abroad and non-disclosure of names of the offenders. Merely tabling the report in Parliament has only sought to dispel the impression that the Centre was not doing anything worthwhile to deal with the black money menace.

The Supreme Court has recently voiced concern over the Centre's reluctance to divulge details of Indian money stashed abroad in foreign banks.

Despite the Supreme Court's directive to constitute a Special Investigation Team to look into the matter, the Government's response has been lukewarm.

Drugs regulator

This refers to “The drugs regulator is sick” ( Business Line , May 25). The apex post for government bodies are remaining vacant due to political and bureaucratic interference. People with qualified experience are moving to the private sector. The Government should immediately fill the post of Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) by adopting the proper procedure.

The DCGI should impart relevant training programmes to its employees to update them with latest knowledge. Vedula Krishna
