The Brazil index Bovespa, after a two-week rally, tumbled 4 per cent last week. On the other hand, Shanghai composite index surged 6.5 per cent. US indices Dow and Nasdaq ended the week on a positive note by gaining 0.8 per cent and 1.2 per cent respectively. European markets remained lacklustre and closed on a flat note. Among the stocks, internet search engines Yahoo and Baidu gained 2.6 per cent and 4.7 per cent respectively. However, these stocks have shed over 30 per cent since the start of the year.
