Mutual Funds ask investors to provide vital contact details, such as email ID and mobile numbers so as to send timely alerts and other useful information to them.

A number of special features and facilities are available to investors who provide their email IDs and mobile numbers.

Alerts and Confirmations

Many funds send email pre alerts for mandated transactions such as SIP, which serve as a reminder, and to ensure availability of funds.

Post transaction confirmations by email serve both as a confirmation of the transaction initiated by the investor and also as alert if there has been activity in the investor account.

Investors whose mobile numbers are registered receive these alerts and confirmations through SMS and also useful reminders, for instance, about an upcoming SIP instalment.

Some mutual funds have also enabled transactions for order-placing through mobile.

Mailback service

Investors would like to regularly update themselves with information regarding their portfolios, and also require statements to help in filing returns and check the details of transactions in their folios during a particular period.

To facilitate this, Registrars have provided investors with a host of self-management tools on their Web sites.

From regular statements, to portfolio snapshots, from consolidated statements to transaction confirmations, investors can have all the information they require in a few clicks.

The only simple requirement to use many of these facilities is that you should have registered your email ID in your folios.

One of the most popular services provided by Registrars is the Mailback Service.

This refers to statements mailed back to investors at their registered emails IDs. Even without a PIN, investors can visit the Mailback Services section of Registrar Web sites and place a request for a wide range of statements which would be mailed back within minutes.

Portfolio Valuation Statement: This gives a snapshot summary view of your portfolio of Funds showing cost and market value, period of holding and returns.

You have asset allocation charts showing how your funds are distributed between Funds.

Consolidated Account Statement (across Registrars) : This consolidates folios and transactions across Mutual Funds serviced by different Registrars, presenting a one-view transaction account statement for a period of your choice.

Realised Gains Statement : This gives details of dividends received and capital gained, if any, in the folio.

Excel : A statement is also available for those who require transaction details in excel format!

In addition to the above statements consolidating detail across all folios that you may hold, a single-folio account statement is also available through Mailback to investors.
