Behind every successful man there is a woman, goes the saying. In today’s world, behind every successful country, women empowerment plays a major role. This is because women form a major part of the economy. Rama Ananthakrishnan, Managing Trustee, Vishvodayaa Trust, says, “though a lot is talked about equal opportunity, reservations, education for women etc, in every Budget year after year, nothing much has actually happened”. According to her, women face the risk of becoming drop-outs from the education system. Even at the next level, women entrepreneurs giving up at the middle of their venture is more likely. “Providing good education and encouraging them to develop life skills can empower women,” says Rama.

According to Rama, women are patient, can deal with children and students very well and can be good teachers. So, a special allocation in the Budget can be made for setting up teacher training institutes across the country. This may also aid in improving the teacher-student ratio. She feels that women lag behind in finding the right opportunity.

The government should provide more, and real, opportunities for women rather than just making a mention as has been happening so far and open up windows that could motivate women to develop skills, asserts Rama.
