In a recently concluded Fine Jewels auction at Sotheby’s, diamond rings stole the top three slots, fetching over £100,000 each. The sale, which had on offer a wide variety of jewels from the 17th century to the present day, fetched a cool £4,868,938 in all. Some of the dazzling pieces included the 1930s bracelet attributed to Ernst Paltscho,

Ernst Paltscho (1858-1929), who founded the firm in 1899 in Vienna, was also patronised by many of the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy. During the 1930s, the firm became famous for its colourful carved hardstone jewels.

Designed as four blue enamel square plaques, with a motif of carved hardstone flowers and accented with single-cut diamonds, the bracelet sold for a whopping £75,000. A gold and enamel jewel, René Lalique, early 20th century bracelet went under the hammer for £60,000.
