With the launch of their new Thunderbird LT, Triumph Motorcycles have now added a classic touring motorcycle to their cruiser portfolio in India. Te Thunderbird LT will be up against the Harley-Davidson Softail Classic in the ‘light touring’ segment.

Triumph had earlier, with the initial batch of launches for India, brought in the Thunderbird Storm, a stripped down, blacked out but extremely aggressive cruiser. The Thunderbird LT, on the other hand, is dressed in classic cruiser garb, complete with a large number of chrome fittings, shrouded forks, white-wall radial tyres with spoke wheels, a windshield that can also be easily detached, detachable leather saddlebags and slightly skirted fenders.

Instead of the twin-headlamps that come with the Storm, the Thunderbird LT is equipped with a large single headlamp, flanked by auxiliary spot lamps on either side, each doused with a generous amount of chrome.

The seats have been redesigned to distribute pressure evenly, keeping in mind touring ergonomics, and there’s dual-layer foam padding with lumbar support and a back-support for the pillion. Instead of the straighter handlebars that are seen on the Storm, the Thunderbird LT uses swept-back handlebars for a comfortable riding position.

Driving the LT is the same massive parallel twin engine that currently powers the Thunderbird Storm. The 1699cc, liquid-cooled, eight-valve DOHC motor produces a peak power of 94PS at 5400rpm and a 151Nm of torque that kicks in early at 3550rpm, with a long-stroke 270-degree firing interval. This translates into massive power being sent to the wheels via a belt-drive and a six-speed gearbox optimised for providing ample torque over all power bands. For braking, there’s a pair of 310mm Nissin discs at the front, and a 310mm single Brembo disc at the rear, and ABS comes as standard on the Thunderbird LT.

The Triumph Thunderbird LT is priced at ₹15.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and will be available in colour options of Caspian Blue, Crystal White, Lava Red and Phantom Black.
