Nissan India, which is keen on reestablishing its image in the premium-end of the passenger car market, unveiled the Kicks here on Thursday. The compact sports utility vehicle will be one of the first uniquely Nissan vehicles despite i t being built on a shared platform with alliance partner Renault. The Kicks will be officially launched in January next year and will compete with other compact SUVs in the Rs 10 lakh to Rs 18 lakh price range.

Nissan is hoping that the Kicks’ unique design and premium cabin will be big selling points compared to the current vehicles in the segment. At the official unveil here Nissan officials highlighted the unique wider and robust style of the Kicks, underlined by a Dynamic Sonic Plus line, Wheel-oriented Stance and a 3-dimensional presence. A Nissan pr sensation said that the body is designed and built with GRAPHENE (Gravity-philic Energy Absorption) Body Structure, which has better impact energy absorption making the new Kicks Stronger, Safer and Durable on Indian roads.

Speaking to Business Line at the sidelines of the exterior unveil, Thomas Kuehl, President, Nissan India Operations said that the company also plans to aggressively expand the reach of its dealership and service network. Over the next few months, it plans to double the number of outlets from the current 287. Kuehl also said that there will be better brand identity distinctions made at the dealerships to identify Nissan as a premium brand. Talking about Nissan’s SUV heritage and its global portfolio, he also confirmed that the Indian subsidiary is studying the possibility of importing some iconic, premium vehicles like the Patrol and X-Trail in CBU form. Also on the cards is a possible phased trial introduction of some of the electrics from Nissan such as the Leaf and the Note.

The Kicks will offer a host of design signatures and features such as the floating roof design created by blacked out pillars with Stylish Roof Rail and Signature LED DRL, Shark Fin Antenna, Front Fog Lamps and Door Mounted ORVMs with Indicators. The bold V-motion grille, a signature motif in Nissan’s design language adds to the Kicks’ distinctive presence. The uniquely designed headlamps and tail lights feature iconic boomerang-shaped LED signature lamps to add character.
