Leading online supermarket BigBasket has acquired three companies, marking its entry into two new industry segments – micro-delivery and physical/omni channel commerce. BigBasket has bought a 100 per cent stake in Bengaluru-based Morning Cart and Pune-based RainCan (Bloomskart Retail Pvt Ltd), both milk delivery start-ups.

It picked up a controlling stake in Savis Retail, which operates cloud connected, smart vending machines under the name Kwik24. Through Morning Cart and RainCan, BigBasket will offer its non-milk range such as fresh fruits and vegetables, staples, bread and eggs, pooja essentials and diapers. It has done a soft-launch of the new subscription service – bbdaily – in Bengaluru and Pune with 20,000 subscriptions a day.

It will launch the services in eight more cities shortly. BigBasket has installed 100 smart vending machines through Kwik24 in Bengaluru and plans to expand to other cities soon. Customers can get fresh produce like fruits and vegetables, and other FMCG products via the bb Instant app and pick up their orders from the vending machines.
