Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group’s affiliate Carlyle Asia Partners IV has bought out the stake held by GSK Velu and his affiliates in Metropolis Healthcare Ltd, which runs a chain of pathology laboratories. It did not disclose details of the deal, but it is estimated at ₹900 crore for a 37 per cent stake. Earlier this year, the promoter Shah family had bought back Warburg Pincus’ 27 per cent stake in Metropolis. Apart from India, Metropolis has laboratories in Sri Lanka, the UAE, South Africa, Kenya, Mauritius and Ghana. It has a network of 130 laboratories and more than 1,000 collection centres in India.
Online Tyari raises ₹5 crore
OnlineTyari, a test preparation platform, has raised ₹5 crore from a clutch of investors, including 500 Startups, TV Mohandas Pai, Tandem Capital, Vikram Chachra of Eight Capital and Aloke Bajpai, co-founder and CEO of IxIgo. The money will be used to strengthen technology and for expansion. OnlineTyari, through its multi-lingual app and website, allows people to prepare for job-oriented tests, including civil services, banking services, UPSC, GATE and State government jobs.
UE Lifesciences gets ₹19.5 crore
UE Lifesciences, a health technology developer, has raised about ₹19.5 crore ($ 3 million) in Series A investment led by Aarin Capital, a venture capital firm co-founded by Manipal Group’s Ranjan Pai. Unitus Seed Fund also participated in this round. UE Lifesciences will use the money to expand trials and set up manufacturing in India and to build distribution networks through public and private primary care providers. The company has developed a portable device for breast health examinations that will help detect cancers in women at an early stage.
Unitus to invest ₹15 cr in healthcare
Unitus Seed Fund, a leading impact venture seed fund that invests in start-ups which innovate for the masses, has said it will double its StartHealth investing initiative targeting ₹15 crore investment in six early-stage health technology start-ups. With partners including Pfizer, PATH, Manipal Hospitals and Narayana Health, the StartHealth programme provides flexible funding, expert support, mentorship and access to healthcare facilities to accelerate the go-to-market path for promising ventures.
