With Diwali around the corner and a legal curb on polluting fire crackers, the ideas put out by a parenting website on how to celebrate the festival are worth considering in all parts of the country, rural or urban.
India parenting suggests we use ‘balloon firecrackers’ where we blow up colourful balloons, fill them with paper flakes that children and adults can enjoy bursting. It also recommends paper poppers that can be made with waste paper and sound similar to a fire cracker when popped, or using inflated paper bags that can be filled with air. These too burst with a bang.
The website suggests colourful decorations along with diyas , glow sticks and wish lanterns that could work magical images for children.
