Here is a CSR initiative focused on the farming community that needs to be flagged. Tractor manufacturer, Tractors and Farm Equipment Ltd (TAFE) has announced that it will be expanding its JFarm Services and JFarm Services app across the nation. Through this it will facilitate the hiring of tractors and farm machinery to farmers looking to hire such equipment.
The app will enable them to contact farmer entrepreneurs and negotiate rental prices in a farmer-to-farmer model.
The move will be more beneficial to small farmers who have little access to mechanised tools, but their farms comprise around 86 per cent of the land holding. “The initiative offers an opportunity to build a viable rural entrepreneurship model while augmenting farm productivity and income of small and marginal farmers, “ says Mallika Srinivasan, Chairman & CEO.
The company is working with the State governments of Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Assam to roll out the JFarm services platform.
The initial pilot will cover farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
Farmers can hire equipment via the JFarm Services android app, contacting the toll-free helpline 1800-4-200-100 or the local Custom Hiring Centres. The app can be used on low-cost Android phones and is designed to run on very little data. Farmers who don’t own smart- or feature phones can use the toll-free helpline.
