It is going to be a long walk to make a strong statement on gender equality in the country. It started from Mumbai on December 20 to express solidarity with women and children who are survivors of sexual violence. Christened the Dignity March and initiated by the Rashtriya Garima Abhiyan along with several like-minded organisations, it will wind its way through 200 districts of 24 States and Union Territories.
Thousands of survivors of sexual violence will travel 10,000 km, along with their supporters, to end the march in Delhi on February 22. Spreading awareness, along the way, of rights of women and children, they will form a national survivor network which will aim to participate in decision making and implementation of laws and guidelines concerning sexual violence in the country.
