GENDER

Eighty-one years to equality!

Gender equality in the workplace is not going to happen in our lifetimes, says a new study. According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2014, the gender gap for economic participation and opportunity now stands at 60 per cent worldwide, having closed by 4 per cent from 56 per cent in 2006. Based on this trajectory, with all else remaining equal, it will take 81 years for the world to close this gap completely.

JOBS

Achhe din are back!

A two-year high in the jobs growth rate is likely to favour Information Technology, FMCG and Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals the most, among sectors, and Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Ahmedabad among cities, says Teamlease’s Employment Outlook for the half year ending March 2015. A lot of the hiring is likely to be at the bottom. Senior-level hiring is also expected to rise. As a consequence, Sales and Marketing and IT / Engineering profiles would likely get a leg up over the next 6 months, the report says.

LEADERSHIP

A tool for measuring CEOs?

Search firm Heidrick & Struggles believes it can emprirically measure leadership and quantify leadership styles. It is launching a proprietary tool which can help Boards pick the ideal CEO. The new tool assesses the primary leadership styles that executives use, and the degree to which they are able to flex to other styles. Called ‘Leadership Signature’, it will be introduced first in the US and Canada, and to the rest of the world in 2015.
