A senior official of a staffing firm says companies are insisting on adhering to a three-month notice period clause these days. And, they are trying to convince and retain employees who resign, in that period.
She notes that with the job climate not being too favourable (to employees) in several sectors, the three-month notice sometimes renders other offers received void. It can also lead to uncertainty in the minds of those looking to shift, on whether the future employer will honour the commitment to hire after three months.
There are strong voices in favour of relieving employees who resign at the earliest possible. Their belief is that those who have resigned and want to leave would not be motivated to perform.
Should companies use long notice periods to try and retain employees?
