TeamLease Services has some cheerful news for the year ahead. It says the second half of 2018 has seen uptick in hiring in the IT sector, thanks to entry of new players and growth in demand. The trend is going to continue in 2019, it says, when the launch of 5G services will lead to increase in jobs in technology. The IT industry in India is expected to add around 2.5 lakh new jobs in 2019 with a 10-13 per cent projected increase in salaries.

According to Alka Dhingra, general manager, TeamLease Services, “Some of the areas wherein positive growth in hiring is expected are computer, mathematical, architecture and engineering related fields. By 2020, about 2 million job additions are anticipated worldwide of which 13 per cent increase will be in India itself.”

To party or not

Most workplaces — even in India — have a tradition of an office party around Christmas, ringing out the old with fun and games. However, this year, a little birdie tells us, there is a level of anxiety in offices over these parties, with some even issuing strict notes on etiquette. In the MeToo era, organisations cannot be too careful. From karaoke to charades, you see a range of games at office parties, but Secret Santa remains the most popular game. Who doesn’t love gifts?
