COP7, or the seventh session of the ‘Conference of the Parties’ is to be held in New Delhi (November 7 -12). It will bring together the World Health Organisation FCTC’s (Framework Convention on Tobacco Control) 180 parties including almost every country as well as regional economic integration organisations like the European Union. The meeting will work to strengthen the global battle against the consequences of tobacco use. Tobacco farmers in India have urged the Government to boycott the meet or take up their end of the argument that livelihoods are being affected as a result of anti-tobacco measures.
