German audio company Beyerdynamic has launched its Beat Byrd set of earphones in India at an affordable ₹2,199. We don’t normally review audio products at this price point as there’s rarely anything remarkable to them and nothing to write about, but the Beat Byrd does offer something more than just a price that young people can afford. These earphones —they’re entirely in-ear — have a flat design to the top that makes them nice for listening while lying down or falling asleep with the ear against a pillow. We found this to be quite true. Unlike other earphones, these didn’t dig into the ear or end up causing an earache from sheer pressure.
The Beat Byrd earphones are not Bluetooth but wired and use a nice tangle-free cable. Elsewhere, the cable is orange but our review unit was a definite black. The box is simple with nothing to it but the earphones themselves and two extra silicone tips. There’s no remote attached to the cable and everything will have to be done from the device with which they’re used. Once worn, they look quite subtle and can barely be noticed. Of course, they would be even less so if they were not wired, but some do prefer the better quality of music delivered by wired audio products.
The sound is nice and clear without at all being harsh and sharp. The sound is open and balanced. You do get a nicely noticeable bass though nothing pounding. Bass heavy songs in fact get a little toned out.
