The new Mi LED TV 4X Pro

Xiaomi launches another version in the country

Xiaomi certainly managed to change the rules of the game with its low cost TVs in India. But the recent launch of two more televisions show the company isn’t planning to slow down anytime soon. Another 55-inch TV called the Mi LED TV 4X Pro has joined a previous model of the same size. The new model is not as paper-thin as the previous one but that allows a reduction of price to ₹39,999, opening up the category for many who wouldn’t have considered a 55-inch TV so far. When wall-mounted, there isn’t a dramatic difference evident in any case despite a new metallic grey finish.

The picture quality of the 4X Pro is pleasing enough with its 10-bit colour depth and support for HDR10. The virtually non-existent bezels give the TV a very nice look. The sound is fairly loud but could do with more depth — which is perhaps why Xiaomi has also launched a Soundbar, to be purchased separately. A similar model has also been launched in the 43-inch category for ₹22,999.

Xiaomi’s installation team puts up the TV for you, including connecting to your WiFi and whatever other services you’re subscribed to. Wall mounting accessories need to be bought separately. The TVs have three HDMI ports (one with ARC), two USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, an antenna/cable connection, and S/PDIF port.

Mi TVs are based on Android 8.1 and use Xiaomi’s PatchWall interface, which puts content sources and recommendations up front. These sources will need subscriptions, of course. It is entirely possible for some users to find the interface busy and confusing, in which case, voice control, including search, is possible from the remote.

Amazon’s Prime Video and Netflix are not available on the TV but the best way of adding them is to get an Amazon Fire Stick, which then gives you an alternative interface in parallel and access to these services. The TVs also have Google’s Chromecast built-in so one can watch YouTube easily, subscribe and see Google’s movie collection, cast from devices that support Chromecast, and get access to several Google services.
