I almost omitted getting down to writing the review for the MuveAcoustics Evoke over-ear headphones from HongKong-based company Zeeva. The problem was that I didn’t want to take them off, turn off the music and focus on writing. The strong, clear sound made me fall in love with my music collection all over again.

The attention to detail begins from the package itself. The Evoke headphones are in a box within a box within a box. You get to the hard case that would easily protect the headset when not in use or when traveling. And inside that, a soft cloth pouch holds the device itself. These headphones are not only large, but quite heavy. The unit I received was an elegant navy blue. One thing you can see immediately is that they are built solid and strong. The hinges that attach the big ear-cups to the band don’t look as if they would give way anytime soon, and neither does the thick headband. It looks quite sophisticated if it hadn’t been for a bit of overbranding, specifically a bigger than necessary logo across the band and Evoke on either side of the metallic hinges. Some subtlety would have only added to the looks of this set of headphones. All the same, everything is good quality, whether it’s the stereo cable provided or the charger cable, neatly boxed-in within the package.

What the Evoke headphones lack in subtlety, they make up for with solid sound. I was surprised to hear loud, clear and very detailed music. You get a good amount of bass without overwhelming the rest of the music. I can definitely say I heard things in my favourite music tracks that I hadn’t noticed before. There’s a very big volume range, so one has to be careful not to push it too high. There’s no compromise on the higher frequencies here either.

The Evoke is a Bluetooth headset that you can pair with two devices, switching between them to listen. You can also handle phone calls. The set charges in two-and-a-half hours and is then set to last for 18 hours of play. They even offer some amount of noise isolation. These headphones are every bit worth their price of ₹12,999, except for one thing: they’re a little heavy for some heads. The headband is hard despite the cushioning underneath and there’s no room to adjust, though they have a good grip. Because of their weight and overall thick feel, they’re not that easy to wear for long hours.
