The Maharashtra Government on Wednesday approved the Chitale committee report that was appointed after the July 26, 2005, floods in Mumbai. The committee recommended that no Central government organisation could undertake construction or reclamation of land in the city and suburbs without approval from the BMC, said the Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh. He was addressing the media after weekly cabinet meeting. Mr Deshmukh said that State Government has decided to set up a high-level steering committee, under the leadership of Chief Secretary, Mr D.K. Shankaran, Maharashtra, to implement recommendations of the Chitale committee.
