Indian business travellers emerged among the highest spenders on hotel stays in a survey even as they rated competitive prices as the key factor that influences their choice of hotel.

In its Asia Pacific business traveller survey, French hotel company Accor said that Indian travellers were estimated to make an average spend of $399 per trip on hotel stays, second only to Singaporeans (estimated spends $468).

Accor has brands from budget to the luxury segment and operates 18 hotels in India.

According to the survey, Indian travellers are also most likely to have breakfast and dinner at the hotel rather than dining outside. They also rated comfortable bed, quality bathroom and shower as more important than free Wi-Fi.

Despite the uncertain economic conditions, Indian travellers also said that they would be making similar number of trips in the coming next six months as they made in the first six months of this year. Indian travellers, on an average, made nine domestic and three international trips in the first six months.

Business travellers from India are also most likely to book directly on the hotel’s Web site with 69 per cent respondents making reservations through hotel’s booking channels. They are also the most likely to post about their hotel experiences on social media.

The survey was conducted with a sample size of 2,586 business travellers across Australia, China, India, and Hong Kong, among others.
