Co-optex will soon invite bids from technology companies for developing an online retail system.

The apex body for the handloom sector in Tamil Nadu is looking to get into online sale of products to give a big push to exports.

The plan is to come out with either a limited or open tender in a week’s time, depending on the scope of the project, which entails setting up an online catalogue of silk saris and enabling order placement.

“If the project comes within Rs 10 lakh, we will approach 8-10 companies and issue a limited tender. But we are also geared with the modalities for an open tender,” said Mr C. Umashankar, Co-optex’s Managing Director.

ERP system

Co-optex also plans to float another tender for developing and implementing its ERP (enterprise resource planning) system. “The final touches are being given to the document by Elcot,” said Mr Umashankar.

Although Co-optex already has in-house software, it is keen to revamp its technology solutions. The new ERP, Co-optex hopes will help track inventory in an efficient manner, so that the moment a piece is sold, “we will move that product from other stores or manufacture more. We will know the best-selling and non-moving products,” said Mr Umashankar.
