L&T bags Rs 1,103-cr orders to build railheads

The railway business unit of the $10-billion homegrown engineering major Larsen & Toubro has bagged orders worth Rs 1,103 crore from three power plants and Balco to construct railheads to link the power plants to the main railway network.

The orders are from Maithon Power, Nabha Power and Sterlite Energy besides Balco, an L&T release said here today.

The Rs 365-crore order from Maithon Power, a joint venture between Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation, is for constructing a 21-km dedicated rail link to the power plant at Maithon in Jharkhand, while the order from Nabha Power, a wholly owned subsidiary of L&T Power Development, is worth Rs 270 crore and is for constructing a 13-km dedicated, double-track electrified rail link to its power plant at Rajpura in Punjab.

Aluminium major Balco has awarded L&T a Rs 151-crore order for augmenting and strengthening its existing railway facilities at Korba in Chhattisgarh.

L&T has also secured orders worth Rs 317 crore from Sterlite Energy to further enhance its dedicated railway facilities that are already under implementation at Jharsuguda in Orissa.

These orders will be executed by the rail infra division, a part of L&T’s railway business unit, Faridabad, on a design, build and lumpsum turnkey basis, the statement said. — PTI
