Pune-based Rhythm Winery, a specialist in fruit wines, has signed a MoU with the Arunachal Pradesh Horticulture Produce Marketing and Processing Board (APHPMPB) for producing Kiwi wine.

This will be initially operational as a pilot project, and grapes will provide a base for the Kiwi wine, which will be produced and marketed by Rhythm. The wine will be sold in Pune and Mumbai markets under the brand ‘Arun Kiwi’.

Akalpit Prabhune, Director, Hill Crest Foods and Beverages Pvt Ltd, of which Rhythm is a part, said that the company had pioneered fruit wines in India.

“Our strawberry and pineapple wines have been well received. Kiwi wine is present mainly in New Zealand, and since the fruit produced in Arunachal has good quality and flavour, a proposal of the concept was presented to APHPMPB.”

Since the signing of the MoU, Rhythm has produced about 3,500 litres of Kiwi wine, and also plans to add peach and mango wines to its portfolio. Its present capacity of around 35,000 liters a year will also be increased to 50,000 litres by next year.
