Samsung India Electronics aims to capture 60 per cent of the smartphone market in the country this year. The company holds a 41 per cent share in the smartphone market at present, said Mr Ranjit Yadav, Country Head, Mobile and IT Biz, Samsung.

“The mobile phone market grew by 14-15 per cent in 2011, while the smartphone segment grew by 220 per cent to 8 million units in 2011 (2.5 million units in 2010). This is set to grow by over 200 per cent to 20-25 million units this year,” Mr Yadav said at a press meet to announce the launch of dual-SIM smartphones in India here on Tuesday.

The contribution of dual-SIM to the overall mobile market has been steadily increasing from 27 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2010 to 45 per cent in 2011. “We will consolidate our position in smartphone category by creating new segment in smartphone market,” he said.

Revenues from mobile phone business accounts for about 50 per cent of the company's total revenues in the country, he said.
