Woodland plans more stores in Kerala, to focus on smaller towns

Eyeing a 30 per cent growth in its revenue in Kerala in FY 14, the apparel major Woodland has firmed up plans to open more outlets in the State.

The company will open 10 more outlets in Kerala to take the number to 25 by the end of the current financial year. The focus will also be on tier II towns to further propel the sales growth, Harkirat Singh, Managing Director, Woodland Worldwide, said.

Singh, who was here in connection with the launch of Autumn Winter 12-13 collections, said the company is all set to achieve a sales revenue of Rs 55 crore from Kerala by the end of the current fiscal against Rs 45 crore garnered in the previous fiscal.

The company, with 370 stores and another 4,000 retailers selling Woodland products, is targeting Rs 1,000 crore sales turnover in 2013-14 nationally by increasing its presence in tier II and III cities.

The sales revenue is expected to touch Rs 800 crore by the end of the current fiscal against last year’s Rs 700 crore, he said.

To achieve the sales growth, he said plans are afoot to expand its presence more in tier II and III cities. He said 30 per cent of the new outlets of the company will be in tier II and III cities.

In Kerala, Kochi will have three more stores. A new one will be opened at Kozhikode. New stores will also be opened at tier II towns of Thodupuza, Thalassery, Malappuram, Kottayam and Alappuzha. As the target group of customers is in the age group of 18-24, Singh said the company would use digital media for marketing. Besides, there are also plans to reach out to various schools and colleges as part of its brand promotion initiatives.

Starting this season, he said, Woodland will launch a special series of products inspired by CSR initiative ‘Pro Planet’. A variety of sweatshirts have been designed with new looks and cuts that would be in stores, prompting the youth to work for a green environment, he said.
