ACC Ltd is planning to use surplus flyash from its cement plants in the Eastern region to make bricks. The company aims to produce one lakh bricks a day from its five plants in West Bengal on a franchisee model. Plans are also afoot for such plants in other eastern States.
According to Vivek Chawla, Chief Executive of East, ACC Ltd, the company will lend its brand, apart from providing manufacturing expertise to the franchises.
“This will give our dealers more business avenues,” Chawla told presspersons here on Tuesday. He was speaking at the launch of its ACC Plus+ brand.
While one brick plant is operational in Burdwan, four others are slated to come up in Belda (West Midnapore), Jangalpur, Dhulagarh (Howrah) and Dankuni (Hooghly).
Chawla added that each plant would entail an investment of nearly Rs 30-50 lakh.
Market share
With its capacity expansion plan in the State and the whole of the East, ACC is expecting to take its market share in West Bengal to nearly 14 per cent over the next two years.
“Currently we control about 11 per cent of the 6 million tonne per annum market in Bengal. We aim to have a 14 per cent market share in two years,” Chawla said.
