A construction equipment launch from the Ashok Leyland-John Deere joint venture is not too far off, considering the joint venture is currently engaged in trial runs using prototypes, according to a senior official of the company. The joint venture between the Indian commercial vehicle maker and US construction major was formed in 2008. But the project has seen a series of delays and is yet to see a rollout. However, some positive news on this front is expected in two months.

“The project is on track. We have started doing trial runs using prototypes and we are getting customer feedback. Wait for two months…,” said Mr J. N. Amrolia, Director, Ashok Leyland John Deere Construction Equipment Co, without elaborating. The joint venture company is expected to manufacture backhoes and four-wheel drive loaders at its Gummidipoondi plant near Chennai.
