Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), the missile manufacturer will now produce Imaging Infrared Seekers for the latest anti-tank guided missile-Nag.

The seeker system guides the missile and empowers it with ‘fire and forget' capability. Nag has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation. It has completed trials and was ready for induction into the armed forces in the next few years.

The Infrared seeker technology has also been developed indigenously by the defence scientists. It helps the missile detect the target upto four km and home in, using infrared and heat waves

For BDL, the Hyderabad-based, defence public sector undertaking, the capability to manufacture these seekers means it joins a select group of companies across the globe to have this facility and expertise.

The seekers made by the company will be used for the forthcoming developmental trials of helicopter- launched NAG (HELlNA), the aerial variant of the missile being developed by defence scientists.

The first lot of Seekers made by BDL was handed over to Mr P. Venugopalan, Director, Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad by Maj Gen (Retd) Ravi Khetarpal, Chairman and Managing Director of the company on Tuesday.
