Auto component manufacturer Bosch India is planning to nearly triple the Antilock Braking System manufacturing capacity. It plans to make around 800,000 units at its Chakan plant. The company plans to do this by next year at an additional investment of Rs 40 crore.

The plant currently has a capacity to produce close to 300,000 Antilock Braking System units.

“Last calendar year (2011), we sold close to 300,000 units of ABS. Of these 200,000 units were manufactured in our Chakan plant, while the rest were imported,” said Mr V. Balasubramanian, Deputy Managing Director, Chassis Systems Control, Bosch Chassis Systems India. The initial investment into the plant had been around Rs. 60 crore.

The ABS is an active safety system that helps prevent the locking of the wheels in an emergency brake system. Mr Balasubramanian said that the demand for safety systems in cars in India was lower than the global average, but the market in India is growing.
