Cargill's Karnataka plant to be operational in October

The Cargill’s Rs 630-crore ‘Corn Milling Plant’ at Davangere (Karnataka) will be operational in October.

The plant will will process 800 tonnes of maize (corn) a day, sourced mostly from the farmers of Harihar in Davanagere district and neighbouring places, said a state government release.

The processing plant will have an annual capacity of three lakh tonnes, and will produce modified starch for the consuming processed food and pharma industries.

The plant will directly benefit farmers from the region and is expected to generate employment opportunity for about 390.

The company would also create grain storage facility around the plant and focus on backward integration for corn supply chain industry.

Cargill India, a subsidiary of $134-billion American multinational company, is engaged in processing, refining and marketing imported and indigenous vegetable oils. It supplies food ingredients to manufacturers and food service industry, process, store, trade and markets farm commodities.
