Coca-Cola’s Atul Singh, in his first public message following his elevation as the Deputy President-Pacific Group at the company, said that there is a need to focus on capitalising the latent opportunity in India and China.

“These are one of the biggest economies in the world and growing at a significant rate. The two combined already contribute about 10 per cent to The Coca-Cola Company’s total volumes. A look at the per capita consumption indicates that both India and China are in the low double digits (India at 14 and China at 39) in comparison to the global average of 94,” he said, adding that there was a need to focus on capitalising on the latent opportunities in these two countries.

Singh will be overseeing operations of the beverage major at China, Korea, Taiwan, and Mongolia, Hong Kong and Macau, besides India and the South West Asian countries.

“I also see a significant amount of best practice sharing that can happen between these two large but similar markets,” he said. Singh said that India currently ranks as the seventh largest market for the company from being 19th in 2006.
