The Chairman of SAIL, Mr C.S. Verma last weekend inaugurated a new barrel reclaimer at the raw materials handling plant at Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) and a new ladle furnace at Alloy Steel Plant (also located at Durgapur).

The barrel reclaimer has been installed at a cost of Rs 16.43 crore. It will ensure 100 per cent supply of quality blend mix to the sinter plant for increasing DSP's hot metal production.

The reclaimer, supplied by Elecon, has a high degree of automation and will substantially improve the system reliability for supply of quality blend mix, DSP said on Monday.

The modern ladle furnace, installed at a cost of Rs 38.43 crore, will help ASP in enhancing the capacity for production of concast stainless steel slabs and will also improve techno-economic parameters by longer sequence castings through continuous casting route.

The Main Hospital at DSP got a CT Scanner at a cost Rs 1.9 crore. The scanner has the storage capacity of CT images of 10,000 patients.

The SAIL chairman also handed over five ambulances to NGOs under DSP's CSR scheme. The ambulances cost DSP a total of Rs 14.5 lakh.
