Essar Projects (India) Ltd on Tuesday announced its entry into water, sewerage and solid waste business, its first project in Gujarat, worth Rs 70 crore.
The company will be constructing the sewage treatment plant for the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation. It will additionally invest Rs 80 crore in creating a pipeline infrastructure for sale of water to industries around Jamnagar city.
The project involves construction of a sewage treatment plant of 70 million litres per day (MLD) capacity and its allied infrastructure along with operation of the plant for 15 years. Both the projects will be completed in two years.
EPIL is an Indian subsidiary of the Dubai-headquartered Essar Projects Ltd (EPL), a global engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), said Alwyn Bowden, President and CEO, Essar Projects.
He said that this project would provide a platform for the launch of the company’s water, sewerage and solid waste business. The sector is at a nascent stage in India but increasing urbanisation would open up an opportunity for these businesses.
“These sectors are well supported by government initiatives such as JNNURM and have a great future in India,” he said.
