HCL to enter healthcare segment

Technology giant HCL has announced plans to enter the healthcare market in India with the launch of HCL Healthcare.

The company is tying up with Johns Hopkins Medicine International to start this venture under HCL Avitas, a subsidiary of HCL Healthcare.

US-based Johns Hopkins is well-known for its medical research and training and will advise HCL Avitas on best practices and medical quality, as also training of staff.

While currently two HCL Avitas multi-speciality clinics are located in the National Capital Region, the company plans to expand across India.

The company said it plans to "provide care for over 20 million people by 2020".
