Himalaya Opticals, an eyewear retailer, opened its third store — and the 61st in the country — at NAD junction here on Saturday.

On the occasion, Managing Director Sarat Binani said the company had set up the first store here in 2007 and in five years it had made satisfactory progress by capturing 12 per cent of the organised market in the city. “We wish to take it to 18-20 per cent soon. We have all the major international brands with prices ranging from Rs 490 to Rs 10,000-15,000. The customer can browse and feel the products,” he said.

He said the eyecare industry in India was mostly in the unorganised sector. But, gradually, the percentage of the organised segment was rising. Himalaya Opticals would take the number of stores to 75 by 2015 and a hundred by 2018. “In Andhra Pradesh too, we will expand, but we will focus on the coastal districts first and then move to Hyderabad. We have no stores in Hyderabad right now,” he said. All the stores were owned by the company.

He said free digital testing facilities would be available in the store for some time as an inaugural offer. There would also be an inaugural discount of 10 per cent on Ray-Ban sunglasses. Contact lenses were also available, he added.
