The country’s second largest passenger car manufacturer Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) on Wednesday launched its premium compact — the new 2018 Elite i20 — priced at between ₹5.35-9.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

HMIL is one of the few companies that launched a product at the expo this year.

“The Elite i20 has been a global success with over four lakh happy customers since its launch in 2014,” YK Koo, MD and CEO, HMIL, said here at the launch. “The new Elite i20 is a product of our continuous R&D efforts to bring out a premium, sporty and stylish design equipped with hi-tech and convenience features offering uncompromised safety along with advanced dynamics.”

The latest model is aesthetically designed with premium interiors and modern looks that make it truly appealing, he added.

The new Elite i20 is equipped with six airbags with front dual, side and curtain airbags, antilock braking system, speed sensing auto door lock, impact sensing auto door, unlock and reverse parking camera with dynamic guidelines for safety, the company said.

It will be available in engine options of 1.4 U2 CRDi Diesel (90 PS/4,000 RPM and 22.4 KGM /1,500-2,750 RPM) that comes with 6-speed manual transmission and 1.2 Kappa dual VTVT petrol (83 PS/6,000 RPM and 11.7 KGM /4,000RPM) powered with 5-speed manual transmission.

Global e-vehicle

Hyundai also unveiled its global e-vehicle Ioniq.

In the run-up to the electrification of the auto industry, Hyundai is expected to launch the Ioniq next year. But, according to company sources, it may import either the Ioniq or its currently sold (in Korea) EV version of Kona, as fully built units.
