Eveready Industries Ltd is launching a new range of rechargeable lighting products. These include wall-mounted LED lights and fans.
Amritangshu Khaitan, ED of Eveready, told reporters that the company in its endeavour to reposition itself as a semi consumer durables company, plans to create a new distribution channel for the new products.
He said the new products would help it power its portfolio into the separate marketing avenue.
In the past couple of years, Eveready introduced CFL and GLS lamps, rechargeable lanterns and battery chargers.
“We are looking for a niche in this segment of lighting using our other core competence of power,” he said. Southern region, facing power shortages, has the potential to become biggest market for these products.
Eveready would outsource these products from China to conform to its specifications without additional overheads.
The strategy also allows Eveready to graduate into bigger markets of lighting instruments, home décor and furnishing.
The new products gave better turnover and increased profitability in FY 2013, he suggested.
“We may report marginal profit in 2012-13 against a loss in 2011-12”, he added.
