After leveraging its sponsorship with the Kolkata Knight Riders IPL team, Nokia is now all set to engage with the bikers in the country.

Nokia has tied up as the technology partner for the Grand Indian Roadtrip (GIR) 2012. An initiative by xBHP.com – a biking community – and Castrol Power I, the road trip is co-ordinated by seven super-bikers.

As a part of its tie up, Nokia has handed over its high-end device – Nokia Lumia 800 – to seven of the bikers to map and plan their routes.

The team of seven bikers will travel 16,000 km and cover 25 cities and towns along their route. According to Mr Sunil Gupta, head of the team of bikers, the GPRS-enabled Nokia Lumia handsets has helped the team navigate unknown roads and find their way through the 25 odd cities on the trip, with the Nokia Drive and Nokia Maps.

Nokia Lumia will provide real time updates to fans and friends through the trip. “The phone has a seamless social interface and this enables us to take pictures and videos and post them simultaneously onto social networking sites,” Mr Gupta said.

“Our journey with the xBHP team has been very exciting and successful till now. It takes true grit to embark on an adventure such as this and Nokia Lumia 800 is an apt companion and tech enabler for them all through” said Viral Oza- director marketing, Nokia India
