NTPC expects Ministry nod for Telangana thermal plant by month end

The 4000 MW thermal power project proposed by NTPC Limited in Telangana expects to receive the Ministry of Environment and Forests approval by month end. This would pave way for taking up its funding and award of contracts.

Speaking at the NTPC’s 40th raising day celebrations, R Venkateswaran, Regional Director (south) NTPC Limited, said that the Ministry of Coal has allocated Mandakini coal mine located in Orissa for the 4000 MW Telangana Super Thermal Power Project .

“We are expecting MOEF clearance by the end of this month which would pave the for investment approval followed by award of main plant equipment contract and commencement of works,” he said.

The first tranche of 250 MW as a part of 1000 MW solar power projects in Anantapur District of Andhra Pradesh is under implementation, he said.

Venkateswaran said NTPC has emerged as the largest power producer in India in terms of both installed capacity and generation, with aggregate installed capacity of 45,548 MW (including 39,352 MW through directly owned units and 6,196 MW through Subsidiaries and Joint Ventures).

In addition, the Company has a capacity of 23,004 MW which is under different phases of completion. NTPC Group accounts for a share of 18.77 per cent of the country’s total installed capacity and generated 260.58 billion units of power, representing market share of 24.95 per cent of India’s total power generation in fiscal 2014-15.

The long term Corporate Plan of the company envisages a vision of becoming a 1,28,000 MW company by 2032 with 28 per cent capacity from non-fossil sources, he added.

In the Southern Region, he said NTPC-Ramagundam 500 MW Unit-7 has set a national record of continuous run of 449 days since August 18, 2014 after overhauling. The 2000 MW Simhadri plant situated near Visakhapatnam has stood at the first position amongst all NTPC coal stations in several performance performance parameters.
