There are 10 million weddings in India each year, with quite a few of the matches made online. So, e-matchmaker Bharat Matrimony has recently launched a Web site to host a million wedding pictures.

Only 10,000-odd pictures, of weddings old and new, have gone up so far.

But the Guinness world record it is aiming for, says Mr Murugavel Janakiraman, Founder-CEO, Bharat Matrimony, is to make the world's largest wedding photo album. The album's size is important, not the number of pictures, of which even 3,000 will do, he explained. This is in support of Matrimony Day – which the company has been observing on April 14 for the last three years.

The Guinness record for the largest photo album is now held by Johnson's Baby China. Unveiled in Beijing in 2008, it measures 4 metres x 5 metres. Come April 14 and Bharat Matrimony will attempt to put together a larger album, with some of the pictures from

. The digital images will be converted into prints for the album.

There's a radio campaign on to get people to upload pictures rapidly.

Mr Janakiraman declined to reveal the size of the album.

When Business Line enquired with the other e-matchmaker Shaadi.com if it had similar plans, Mr Gaurav Rakshit, Business Head, Shaadi.com, said it's aiming to do something closer to Akshaya Tritiya .
