Samsung on Friday unveiled a slew of gizmos, including Galaxy Note 510 tablet, a smart TV that you can control by waving to it, an Evolution Kit that upgrades a smart TV you bought last year and a remote that takes written commands and helps you change the screen, in Hyderabad.

The other product that catches your attention at the two-day Samsung Forum 2013 is the F5100 TV that allows you to share content from multiple devices using USB, eliminating the need for a computer.

Though most of the devices were showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (Las Vegas) recently, the company holds roadshows in several regions to make local launches. The company withholds the price tags for these products that are expected to be rolled out in the next few months in India. But the Samsung Forum 2013, being held here for the South-West Asia, has marked a new business thrust the Korean consumer electronics major has just treaded. Though it has been selling to enterprises earlier, it has come out with a specific plan to penetrate into this field that their competitors such as HP, Dell, Microsoft and Apple have focussed long ago.

New segment

A new segment that it carved out from many of its product verticals, Samsung targets 10 per cent of its revenue this year from enterprise business. “This segment will contribute a quarter of our global revenues in 2020,” Uday Bhat, Director (IT Solutions Business), said. The company offered enterprise security solutions for their bring-your-own-device strategies. The enterprise business strategy would cover mobility, information technology, infrastructure, retail and healthcare segments.

Phones to cost more

Asim Warsi, Vice-President of Samsung Mobile, has said that the cost of phones could go up after the Budgetary proposals to increase the excise duty to 6 per cent from 1 per cent. “Part of the burden will have to be passed on (to the consumers),” he said. He, however, said the industry body would represent to the Government to have a re-look on the issue.

It also launched a home theatre system (HT-F9750W, 1,330 watts), Samsung NX300 camera, 2D and 3D lens, notebooks and the Top Mounted Freezer that automatically adjusts cooling speed in response to temperature fluctuations.
