People can pay a fee to access database to hire drivers, maids

Saral Rozgar, an initiative of Tech Mahindra’s Growth Factory, is testing waters with a new vertical to tap the potential in the household sector, while organising job fairs in tier-I and tier-II cities to reach out to the jobseekers in smaller towns.

The human resources listing firm is building a database of drivers, domestic maids and other skilled people that the middle-class look for.

“Finding drivers and domestic helps has become a big issue. We would like to address this problem, particularly in top cities. They can access the info on the app,” Mayuk Dasgupta, Chief Operating Officer of Saral Rozgar, told

People can pay a fee of ₹1,000 for a month’s access to the database of drivers and domestic helps. With a total reach of 60 lakh jobseekers in the blue collar category and 10,000 employers, Saral Rozgar runs a call centre with 40 people to take details of the job seekers.

“There are about 12-15 parameters of information that we gather to prepare the digital profile of the jobseeker. It includes his skills, location and age,” he said.

While jobseekers a buy a ₹100 card to enlist their details, companies will pay subscriptions to access the database, which includes telecallers, gardeners, plumbers, carpenters and security guards. It so far sold five lakh cards across the country out of the inventory 11 lakh cards it created. “We could track about one lakh jobs that were created on the platform. The number could be much more as employers are allowed to talk directly to the jobseekers,” Mayuk Dasgupta said.

The firm, however, is yet to break even. “It will take some time as we are in an expansion mode,” he said.

After expanding the operations to the Gulf, the firm is evaluating options in Latin America and South East Asia. “But it will happen after consolidating our presence in the Gulf region,” he said. Stating that the interest among jobseekers in the blue collar category is growing significantly in States like Telangana, he said the firm would organise job fairs in smaller towns like Warangal, Nellore and Vijayawada.

“The key challenge for enterprises and small firms is to find human resources is their availability in the vicinity. To address this, we have added a tool that provides the employers with information on the locally available people,” he said.
