Singareni Collieries Co Ltd has approved the setting up of a 600 MW coal-fired thermal power plant (Stage II) at Jaipur in Adilabad district of Telangana.

The Board of Directors at the company’s 528th meeting, chaired by N.Sridhar, Chairman and Managing Director, and where A.K.Bhalla, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal and others were present, approved the Detailed Project Report for the project. The expansion project entails a capital cost of Rs 3,570 crore.

It is envisaged to build the project with 30 per cent equity by SCCL and 70 per cent debt. The required 220 acres of land and 0.7 TMC of water are already available.

This proposal has been taken up after approvals by K.Chandrasekhar Rao, Telangana Chief Minister, who had visited the project site on December 25, 2014.

Other important agenda items included production enhancement from 1.50 MT per annum to 2.5 MT per annum from the existing Kakatiya Opencast which is linked to supply to power plant, and production expansion from Khairagura Opencast from 2.5 MT to 3.75 MT per annum. Enhanced production from these mines is likely to be realised in 2015-16.

The Board also approved the employee centric welfare measure such as Introduction of Special Female Voluntary Retirement Scheme-2015. This was agreed in the structured meeting with the Recognised Union in December 2014 and is on the similar lines of the policy approved in CIL.
